Work towards your Class3
Operating a 3 or 4 axle truck such as tandem or tri-axle
With your Class 3 license you can drive:
Any motor vehicle that the holder of a Class 5 license may drive
Single motor vehicle with 3 or more axles
Motor vehicle with 3 or more axles that is towing a trailer with one or more axles (if the trailer is not equipped with airbrakes)
Class 2 or 4 type vehicle without passengers (bus, taxi, ambulance)
Class 1, 2 or 6 vehicles as a learner only

4 Steps to get your Class 3 Licence
1. Eligibility for Class 3
Have a full Class 5 driver’s licence, No GDL
Be a least 18 years old
2. Assesment for Skill Level & Time Estimate
To successfully pass your Class 3 road test, our instructors are very competent to get you the practical experience and know the rules to pass along for you to pass your road test.
Depending on your driving experience you may be ready to book your driving test in as little as a few hours up to 5 days (this is only an estimate and can only be determined upon assessment).
Our instructors are able to make an assessment on time commitment by asking a series of questions and assessing your driving experience.
3. In Vehicle Experience & Assesment
Cost for in vehicle experience is $145/hr. Minimum driving instruction is 2 hours.
For your convenience we have an automatic and a manual transmission vehicle to practice and road test in.

4. How to upgrade:
from Class 5 - Class 3
Step 1.
Take a knowledge test
Go to a registry agent and take a driver's knowledge test. You will need to pay a $17 fee to take the test. You can only take one attempt per day.
You will need to bring acceptable ID.
To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass an air brake knowledge test which we offer monthly at the Safety Buzz Campus. This in one of the first steps we suggest.
Step 2.
Pass a vision test
A registry agent will test your vision to see if your vision is good enough to drive.
Step 3.
Pass a road test
Schedule a road test through a registry agent or online through the Alberta Road Test Scheduler.
Safety Buzz Campus’s driver trainers can work with you to prepare you for the driving practical as well as can provide a vehicle for the driving test. The cost of driving time and utilizing our drivers trainer vehicle is $145/hr. For your convenience we have an automatic and a manual transmission vehicle to practice and road test in.
Step 4.
Purchase your licence card
If you successfully pass the knowledge test, road test and vision test you will be able to upgrade to a commercial class driver’s licence.
Cost of the knowledge test, road and vision test is at the cost of the student.
You will be given a temporary licence that’s valid for 30 days or until your licence card comes in the mail.
Your licence card should arrive in 7 to 10 business days.
